Jacob's Creek Vineyard

Jacob’s Creek

The History of Jacob’s Creek

Jacob’s Creek was established in 1847 by Johann Gramp, a German migrant who settled in the Barossa Valley, where he planted his first vines and began to produce wine. He named the winery after Jacob’s Creek, the water source flowing through his property.

The winery was one of the first in Australia to produce wines under a single brand. In 1976, Jacob’s Creek introduced its most famous label: ‘Johann’s Garden’ Riesling, named for Johann Gramp himself.

Top Australian Wine Brand

Jacob’s Creek is Australia’s most awarded wine brand with over 6,800 medals and awards from renowned national and international wine shows since 1976.

The Jacob’s Creek legacy began in 1847 when Johann Gramp planted vines on the banks of Jacob’s Creek and made history with his first vintage. The vintage was served at the inaugural dinner to celebrate the inauguration of Australia’s Federation in 1901. Today, Jacob’s Creek wines are enjoyed around the world, representing everything that Australia stands for – independence, vitality, and boldness. The brand is proud to have been named Most Admired Australian Brand in 2017 and holds a place as the number one Australian wine brand in the world.

Double Barrel Style

The Double Barrel style is a method of wine-making that was adopted in 2014. It involves two steps:

  • After the wine is made, it is aged in American oak barrels for 6 months, which gives it vanilla flavors and aromas.
  • The wine is then transferred to Scotch whisky barrels for an additional 6 months. This extra step adds caramel and smoky flavors and aromas to the wine.

The result? A smooth, complexly flavored wine with an elegant finish. It’s an excellent choice for any occasion!

Jacob’s Creek Wine In Kenya

As one of the best-known and most enjoyed labels in Australia, Jacob’s Creek is available in Kenya. In Kenya, you can find varieties of Jacob’s Creek wine to pair with any meal. Kenyan cuisine features a mix of African and Mediterranean flavors, which makes it a lot more fun than other places where people just eat rice all day. The following are some recommended wines from Jacob’s Creek that will go well with your food:

  • Chardonnay – This wine is unoaked, meaning no wood was used during the manufacturing process. It has a taste of crisp green apple and melon for everyone to enjoy, which makes it perfect for steak or fettuccine in Alfredo sauce.
  • Sauvignon Blanc – This great bottle of white wine has a light flavor and an exciting touch of lime on its finish (the last impression left by a drink). Try it with seafood like shrimp or even chicken wings flavored with lemon pepper seasoning!
  • Cape Mentelle Shiraz – We mentioned earlier that Kenyan food has some African influences; this great red wine pairs well with meals featuring those African flavors! Cape Mentelle Shiraz is one of Australia’s most popular red wines—and now, it can be yours as well!

Takeaway.

Jacob’s Creek is Australia’s most awarded wine and a proud part of the Pernod Ricard portfolio. In the short decade since Jacob’s Creek launched its “Double Barrel” wines in 2008, this innovation has received over 50 global awards and accolades. Double Barrel wines are available in three varieties: Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Australian wine market has seen a rise in popularity for these wine styles with sales showing an increase. Demonstrating strong consumer demand for these products. Each Double Barrel variety was created by individually barrel-fermenting the corresponding varietal wine (Chardonnay, Shiraz or Cabernet Sauvignon) which is then matured separately. These wines are then blended together prior to bottling, creating a unique combination through two distinct barrel maturation processes that deliver additional character and complexity to Australian white and red wines.
